Star Wars and Disney Parks fans alike have been eagerly waiting on the edges of their seats to hear when the new themed lands would be opening at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. Now we have official dates for the openings of these two new themes areas!
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland in California on May 31, 2019, and over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World it will open on August 29, 2019.
The announcement was made during the shareholders meeting on Thursdays March 7th, 2019 by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. Iger announced that they would be opening in phases with the attraction Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run along with food and beverage offerings and merchant shops opening first and the second attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opening during phase two later this year. He stated they made this decision to open earlier than originally planned due to demand.
The opening in Disneyland will be slightly different than the opening at Disney World with guests wishing to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019, will be required to make a reservation to access the land. They have not yet stated how and when you will be able to make those reservations, but updates will be posted on Disneyland.com. If you are staying onsite at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during those dates you will receive a one designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during your stay. As always valid theme park admission is required.
Over at Walt Disney World reservations will not be offered or required to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Of course, valid theme park admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be required and capacity is limited. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will also be available during Extra Magic Hours for those guests staying at Walt Disney World resorts.
Disney FASTPASS service (Disney MaxPass at Disneyland park and Disney FastPass+ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not be offered for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run when it opens. I would plan for some seriously long lines!
